Studying Individual Courses

Some individuals may desire to study a particular course at the Missionary Institute, for their own personal growth or in order to fulfill a requirement at a university or seminary. The Missionary Institute invites the student to enroll in any Individual Course being offered. Upon completion of course requirements, a Certificate will be given to the student. A student may enroll in an individual course without committing himself (or herself) to an entire program of study. Courses which are offered on an intensive basis (an entire course in just one week) lend themselves particularly well to individual enrollment.

Requirements for Enrolling in Individual Courses

All students at the Missionary Institute must be active Lutheran Christians, of a humble heart and attitude of service, dedicated to prayer and the Word, of good moral character, and committed to serving God and His church. In addition, students must have good study habits.

To enroll in an individual course without entering a whole study program, you must:
1. Be a member of the Lutheran Church.
2. Be an active member of your local congregation.
3. Read, speak, and write Spanish.
4. Have a high school diploma (or equivalent).
5. Fill out an Enrollment Form.
6. Present a letter of recommendation from the pastor of your congregation or the supervisor of a recognized program of theological education.

Some exceptions to the above requirements may be made by the executive director on a case by case basis, assuming that there is room for more students in a given class.

Certificate

Upon successful completion of the course requirements, the student will receive a Certificate recognizing his or her efforts and achievement. Courses completed at the Missionary Institute are accepted for academic credit at the Center for Hispanic Studies at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. Other theological education programs may also give credit for some courses of the Missionary Institute. The student who comes from an outside program should ask his supervisor about course equivalencies before enrolling in an individual course at the Missionary Institute.
